This site is a unique community ecotourism project established by the Ministry of Environment and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Cambodia Program. The aim of this project is to protect bird conservation and community development. In this area you can see important breeding population of two critically endangered Ibis species, the Giant Ibis and White Shouldered Ibis. It’s a mythical bird for all bird-watchers. This ecotourism project has received the “Responsible tourism Award in 2007”. In 2008 it was a joint winner of the Equator Prize for poverty reduction through sustainable use of bio-diversity

LOCAL AREA & ACTIVITIES
Tmatboey Ibis Ecotourism site is a project to learn more about the birdlife in Cambodia. The main reason for coming here is bird watching. However during your visit, you will also meet the indigenous population in the Kulen Prompted Wildlife sanctuary.
The visitors walk through a rich eco-system of open woodland, seasonally-inundated grasslands and all the income of tourism is used for infrastructure improvement and other development projects, to conserve wildlife and maintain natural habitats.
GETTING THERE & TRANSPORT
From Stung Treng to Preah Vihear City ( 135 km and 1h53) take a VIP minibus (asian van transfer )( 12$, 2 hour) or if you are more adventurous, you can take a Cambodian share taxi -6$.
From Siem Reap there are several VIP minibus express companies, taxi share is also available to Preah Vihear.
Tmatboey village lies about 5km off the smooth new highway that links Preah Vihear City and Sra Em. The turnoff is 46km southeast of Sra Em and 39km northwest of Preah Vihear. The village is accessible year-round. You will need to organise public trasnport ot this site.

This place is a paradise for birdwatchers! It is a unique opportunity to see the Giant and White-shouldered Ibis in the wild. Giant Ibis is the largest of the world’s ibises and Cambodia is its only known breeding place. Within the sanctuary, you can also observe the Sarus Crane, storks, Pied and Eastern Marsh Harrier, Small Buttonquail, Bluethroat and Red Avadavat.

The Sanctuary offers a wide range of packages for birding novices to seasoned enthusiasts. Overnight stay at Tmatboey Eco-loge offers opportunities to see nocturnal species such as Spotted Wood Owl and Brown Fish Owl. Most tours, start early with wake up call at 4.am in order to see less disturbed areas of forest where rare birds can be observed in their natural environment.
